The SMART Villages programme supported Glengoole, Emly and Fethard communities to develop Sustainable Village Plans through structured training, consultation, and facilitated workshops. These communities identified local priorities and translated them into clear, actionable plans, including defined goals and implementation pathways. The process has strengthened local capacity to plan strategically and progress future projects with greater clarity and confidence.
Supported by LEADER funding, this initiative provides tailored training in sustainability, climate action, community consultation and strategic planning. Through participatory workshops, communities assess needs, set goals and develop practical action plans, including consultation findings, SWOT analysis, vision, and an implementation roadmap.

“This programme brought people together around a shared vision for our community. It gave us the skills and confidence to move from ideas to real plans, and to work collaboratively to make them happen.” – Gillian Moore, Chairperson, Emly Community Council
