Supported by LEADER funding, The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA), a voluntary search and rescue organisation based in Clonmel, provides 24/7 emergency response to incidents in mountainous, upland, and remote rural areas. It enhanced its emergency response capability through investment in drone technology and specialist training. This enables faster location of casualties in low visibility and challenging terrain, improving safety outcomes and operational efficiency. It also supports safer access to Tipperary’s uplands, a key asset for walking and outdoor tourism.

“Drone technology has transformed SEMRA operations, enabling faster, safer casualty location in difficult conditions while boosting volunteer confidence and overall effectiveness during rescue missions.” – Colm Walsh, SEMRA
