Energy retrofit | Total LEADER Funding €143,000
Mindful of climate change and the need to move to renewable energy, Clonmel Group Scouting Ireland took the ambitious step of completing a full energy retrofit on their historic 1830s building. Over time, the facility had become cold and hard to heat, with many draughts and leaky windows. The project involved insulation, installation of LED lighting and renewable energy drawn from a heat pump system. As the façade is a protected structure, special argon filled double glazed timber windows had to be handcrafted to meet heritage standards.
The Scout Hall is now a warm and truly sustainable space ready to welcome back the 350 young people and their leaders as soon as they can re-assemble post COVID. The facility will also be available for hire by the local community, thus enhancing the town of Clonmel.
The project was funded by a combination of grant aid from LEADER and SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) and was managed by the Tipperary Energy Agency.
