John had been out of work for a period of time when he was referred to the LAES. His caseworker quickly recognised that he had a strong background in plastering and construction work and was eager to get back on his feet, but seemed to have limited opportunities. It was clear that John had an interest in starting his own business and his LAES caseworker connected him with an officer from SICAP, another programme operated by STDC. John was provided with guidance on business planning, budgeting, marketing and the various financial supports.
This support and guidance gave him the tools and confidence he needed to turn his dream into reality. With ongoing support from both programs, John launched his own plastering business, Casey Plastering Services. His dedication and hard work, combined with the support and resources from his caseworkers, led to his business thriving in the local community.
