One of SICAP’s core strengths is that people can engage on their own terms, without pressure and without penalty. Patrick’s journey in Tipperary Town shows how flexible, ongoing support helps people overcome complex barriers at their own pace.
“I appreciate all the time that you have given to help me find out information on my options.” – Patrick, SICAP client
Initially supported through SICAP’s predecessor programme, Patrick accessed tailored personal development programmes. Living with mood disorders and a late dyslexia diagnosis, he progressed non-linearly through education and employment supports.
In 2019, Patrick became a full-time carer. Five years later, he reconnected with SICAP, ready to explore training options. With his development officer, Patrick tackled issues like transport, payments, and health, and enrolled in a course he was passionate about. Although circumstances led him to pause again, Patrick remains determined to continue on his positive journey.
Patrick’s story highlights the importance of sustained, person-led support in building confidence and opportunity, on a timeline that works for the individual.
