Most Traveller woman attend the maternity services and often have large families. From discussions with the local Traveller woman they had reported that most of their engagements with maternity services in TUH were positive but some identified that more information around appointments and what to expect would be helpful. The PHCTP hosted an information morning for the Traveller woman in The Clonmel Resource Centre.
The morning was facilitated by the Director of Midwifery along with a dietician, woman’s physiotherapist and a midwife. 20 Traveller woman attended the event. 2 of the participants attended with newborn babies and 1 of the participants was due to have her baby. The facilitators gave the participants information of what to expect at antenatal appointments along with information on postnatal care and breastfeeding. Advice on accessing follow up care was also given.
