Community Placement (RSS)

Services Description

Certain services of benefit to rural communities by harnessing the skills and talents available among low-income farmers and fisherpersons. Providing income support to low-income farmers and fisherpersons who are in receipt of specified, social welfare payments. Part-time scheme for Farmers and fisher persons.

The type of work carried out by RSS participants and services being supported and carried out to various Community Organisations/other schemes includes:

  • Maintaining and enhancing various walking routes (that is, waymarked ways, agreed walks) and bog roads.
  • Energy conservation work for older people and those at risk of poverty
  • Village and countryside enhancement projects
  • Social care and care of older people, community care for both pre-school and after-school groups
  • Environmental maintenance work – maintenance and care-taking of community and sporting facilities
  • Projects relating to not-for-profit cultural and heritage centres
  • Community administration or clerical work
  • Any other appropriate community based project identified during the course of the scheme

Who is this Service for?

South Tipperary Development Company plays a leading role in identifying organisations to provide RSS placement opportunities.  Those organisations eligible to participate must be:

  • Community, voluntary and not-for-profit in nature, including IBs, other than Údarás na Gaeltachta; and
  • Have a recognised informal (parish/community committee, trade, sporting, cultural or other association) or formal/legal structure (a company limited by guarantee, not-for-profit co-operative or friendly society where profits or surpluses are not distributed to members); and
  • Demonstrate a track record of working with or providing services to and within their communities; and
  • Demonstrate a capability of managing a participant in a place with the supervisory support of the Local Development Company (STDC)
