SICAP Programme

The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is co-funded by the Irish Government, through the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the European Union, through the European Social Fund Plus

Introduction

South Tipperary Development CLG is a programme implementer of SICAP 2024 – 2028. Through SICAP, we aim to address high and persistent levels of deprivation through targeted and innovative, locally-led approaches. It targets and supports those who are disadvantaged in society and less likely to use mainstream services and assists both individuals and groups.

What is social inclusion?

Social Inclusion is “the process which ensures that those at risk of poverty and social exclusion gain the opportunities and resources necessary to participate fully in economic, social and cultural life and to enjoy a standard of living and well-being that is considered normal in the society in which they live.”

The role of South Tipperary Development Clg in promoting social inclusion and quality of life within Tipperary South is best defined through the aims of programmes and services we provide

Programme Goal 1: Supporting Communities

To support communities and target groups to engage with relevant stakeholders in identifying and addressing social exclusion and equality issues, developing the capacity of Local Community Groups, and creating more sustainable communities.

Programme Goal 2: Supporting Individuals

To support disadvantaged individuals to improve the quality of their lives through the provision of lifelong learning and labour market supports.

The services we provide are based on achieving the following aims:

Increasing awareness, knowledge and uptake of a wide range of statutory, voluntary and community services
Supporting people’s work readiness and employment prospects through a range of supports and services
Promoting lifelong learning at community level and encourage participation in social, educational, cultural and recreational activities
Advocating and supporting active engagement with policy, practice and decision making processes on matters affecting local communities
Developing new and innovative solutions to address incidences of social exclusion and marginalisation.
