A collaboration between SICAP and ETB resulted in the delivery of a Horticulture Course to the Women’s Group in Ballylynch, Carrick-on-Suir. This Community Education course ran over four mornings during the month of June, and participants got to develop their gardening knowledge and skills and experience the delights and rewards of container gardening.
The course was a blend of demonstration and practical work where the group filled their basket or tub under the guidance of the ETB tutor learning about what plants work well in containers, how to combine plants for texture, colour and form and gaining the horticultural knowledge of the best conditions to ensure your plants thrive.
The group also worked on the gardens in the Centre learning about vegetable planting and flower garden care whilst developing the core skill of teamwork. Eleven women participated in the course and learned about the positive impacts of gardening on the wider environment, created an awareness of how gardening promotes a healthier lifestyle and helps you to get outdoors to connect with nature and relax.
‘I thoroughly enjoyed your great group of ladies there…great community spirit and so eager to learn’
